Moon Tree Run
Route Preview
The following provides a good idea what the route will be but there are a lot of details to work out so changes should be expected into early April.
The first half of the run leaves the historic Siskiyou Smokejumper Base and follows Highway 199 for a short distance to Rough & Ready Forest State Park. From this point to Seats Dam, the route is in designated botanical areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service. More than 50 inches or rain falls annually but the plant communities look like they belong in the high desert. The geology changes at the east Water Ditch Road and vegetation becomes dense and lush. This change can be seen on the map below. At Seats Dam, the route climbs into a much different plant community growing on these richer soils and returns to the starting point through ranch lands.

Each of these cuts off about a mile of the main route, making it possible for runners to easily choose a six mile run, five mile run, or four mile run. The yellow route is a little more than three miles with about a third following a powerline road. The shortest route is the one mile fun walk that parallels the runway north of the starting line.
The images in the gallery below are arranged in a chronological order along the main route. Note that there are rocky and uneven running surfaces on the dirt road from Highway 199 to Seats Dam. Airport Drive can be expected to have vehicle traffic.
